I'm so mad about it!! How can want your child to suffer like that!! Elliott can't get his MMR until he is 12 months old. WELL he already has bloody measles! It's going around here because of parents who choose not to do their duty as a parents and make sure their children don't get these diseases!!! Off the soapbox whew

Like everything else, society seems to miss the 'happy medium'. Some normal healthy kids get vaccinated against everything including the chicken pox and the flu because Mommy and Daddy can't take sick time to take care of a kid with the flu. They get pumped full of 4 shots full of vaccines at the very same time because insurance companies want to minimize the number of times that the kid visits a doctor. While the vaccine itself is safe, the companies that make them have to use a variety of preservatives to prevent spoilage and these are often untested and contain heavy metals. (They aren't saline, folks.) The only way you can object to these now mandatory vaccinations is to object to all vaccinations for religious reasons. You are not allowed to decide that measles and polio are serious and the chicken pox is not. Having known a family that lost a child due to this vaccination process, it is tough to know what to do. Everyone wants to protect their kids, but it just gets more difficult all the time. K

I had my kids shots because i had to in order to get them into school.i dont know what the numbers are for kids getting autism versus the number of shots. all i know is that in boy children, it is very important to have them immunized against measles. i know a guy that got measles and he became sterile. ll

Like Luv, when my boys were small, they required immunizations in order to go to school. What's interesting thought, is when we moved here (boys were 3 months and 2 years), there were alot of start-up charter and private schools. You would hear alot about folks with kids attending these alternative schools that DIDN'T go the vaccination route. When James had one of his vaccinations (can't recall which one at the moment), it had temporary (about 8 hours) of paralysis in both legs from it. Quite scary. Close friends of our vaccinated their kids for everything. EVERYTHING. They were always on antibiotics, etc. I really think that comprimises your immune system. By taking all this stuff all the time, you don't allow your bodies to build up the necessary antibodies to do it on it's own. My kids were probably on antibiotics maybe once or twice in their lives and now they're 20 and almost 23. There are alternatives to this stuff. I'm sorry your little one has the measles. So hard for them when they're too young to understand what's going on. Hang in there, Stacie!

With EJ being in a children's nursing home, there were kids there with all kinds of maladies. But the really angry-about-it parents were the ones who had perfectly healthy and beautiful children until they received their immunizations. Now they have beautiful, autistic children. It's very sad. I think mainly it was the 18 month immunizations that affected the kids. Sorry that Elliott is suffering so much with the measles, Stacie. Though it is dangerous for boys to have them, it's rare for long term complications. If you bathe him in baking soda, keep him in a darkened room, and put caladryl on his itchies, he should get over it without too much more trouble. 1John 3:18 NRSV: Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. Maybe your kid will have no reaction. Maybe they will have a slight one. Maybe they will suffer permanent damage or death. I cannot even imagine how scary that must have been to have your child be paralyzed, even temporarily. If the risk of a reaction is small, you may weigh it against the risk of disability from polio or measles. Unfortunately, many doctors are afraid to report reactions to immunizations. Because it is not usually possible to prove a causal relationship (unless you have identical twins and only do it to one), many likely reactions go unreported. And now, schools 'require' chicken pox vaccine, too, because there are a handful of people in this country that die every year from chicken pox. I must admit, I am a statistics and probability nut. I love the math behind it because it is so interesting and fun. But guess what- those 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10,000 odds don't mean a thing if you happen to be the '1'. It is especially difficult if you are not given all the facts or not given the choice. And does anyone feel like they are really being given all the facts? K

And thought I sound paranoid, I'm most certainly not. If they put everything out there for us, we wouldn't touch it. Period. What we have to do though it weight the positives and the negatives of all of this. Guess it's a choice of the best of the 2 evils.
